BITree Touchdown Station: Redefining Co-working Spaces

A Stand-Up Workstation Designed for the Future

BITree Touchdown draws inspiration from the iconic school sign of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). The sign represents the vision of students from all over the world coming together to pursue education and collaborate. This idea resonates with the essence of BITree Touchdown, where co-workers embrace each other's presence and make things happen.

What sets BITree Touchdown apart is its versatility and user-centric design. As an integral part of the co-working space, it offers a range of work surfaces at different heights and functions to cater to individual needs. Whether it's a quick research session on a phone, enjoying a cup of coffee, or engaging in short-term activities, this workstation provides a relaxing and interactive space.

The design team at EarlyBird Design Studio utilized pine wood for the tabletop and dense wood for the legs, cut using a CNC machine. The two table tops are connected using aluminum alloy joints, ensuring stability and durability.

BITree Touchdown's technical specifications include Table A measuring 1850 mm*40 mm*1100 mm and Table B measuring 2000 mm*40 mm*1200 mm. These dimensions provide ample space for co-workers to comfortably carry out their tasks.

Located at the entrance of the co-working space, BITree Touchdown serves as a first contact point for visitors. It not only guides them into the inner space but also offers a resting spot or a place to temporarily store heavy items. In case all working spaces are occupied, co-workers can utilize the workstation as a temporary desk until a spot becomes available.

The project, which started in November 2017 and concluded in January 2018, was exhibited at the Art Gallery in Beijing Institute of Technology. The design team conducted extensive research on co-working space organization and structure, ensuring that BITree Touchdown met the needs and expectations of its users.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was incorporating a future element into the table. The team successfully integrated pleated acoustic paper into each end of the table, allowing users to pull it out and create a sound-proof screen. This feature provides co-workers with a separate working or relaxing space whenever needed.

BITree Touchdown received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2018, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature. This award acknowledges the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
